ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Above, 85mm f1.8 experiments on a corner of rue Raspail with a large glass building reflecting sunlight on pedestrians. Michael David Murphy coined this mini phenomenon as a No Flash Corner. -- I don't think I was able to demonstrate the reflection as well as I would have liked, so I'll be going back, but I have posted an example of the light I like here. -- More of MDM's shots here.
Three photo links from my feeds (as I catch up on them): Invasion 68: Prague from Magnum Blog, Eric Etheridge: Breach of Peace on Photoshelter, and on a lighter note, Rainbow Tree from BlueJake.
A few related shots on this site from four years ago.

people watching on a no flash corner in paris

I just purchased a 50 f/1.8, so I'll see if I can give this a try.
i found that the 50 f/1.8 is not great for street shooting -- not too sharp due to the cheap glass. It's great for low light food/table shots but iffy with moving subjects. Let me know if you find a different result.
But you can shoot reflected light with any kit lens...
