ADDITIONAL NOTES:
central park, new york city: blowing in the cold wind, The Gates, a temporary art installation in Central Park, line the pathways of the park. each gate, as an object, is not really a beautiful piece in itself. (i think i liked the umbrellas a bit better as "art" because they were real world objects that suggested context and symbolism along with the spectacle.) but The Gates' colors in the sun and the visual of them in multiples can be stunning and makes for some lovely sights, especially from the right angles.for more photos, get started at callalillie, satan's laundromat, tien mao, kottke, gothamist, on flickr: kathryn, frankko, karlo, me, and "the gates" tag, or check out photos of one of the gates being opened from yesterday.

Thanks for the great gate photographs and the references to others who have photographed the project. Its what I was hoping to find on Photoblogs.org today.
I'm hoping to get down to NYC before its taken down.
Great photos. I love how the sun works with the fabric. By the time I got there yesterday, it was already overcast.
Beautifuls photos. Your Photoblog is always
update!! Congratulations!!
I love them all, but especially like the 4th one..
I'm absolutely loving all the photoblogs from NY that are showing this thing...I wish I were there to enjoy it in person! Very nice shots, the third is my favorite.
absolutely gorgeous shots :oD i love the 4th one.
yeup the 4th one rocks
I watched a documentary on the artists who developed these pieces. I found it so intriguing that they worked to develop art completely absent of any inspiration whatsoever. I'm not sure I could close my mind to any inspiration.
:-) Beautiful photographs.
Saw this on the BBC News - love it - someone needs to do something like that in one of London's many green spaces - when the trees are all bare ! No colour....dreary... Great pix - thanks
~I just read a blip about this art piece, $20 million project, or am I remembering it wrong?~
Sweet shots. I must have missed these earlier, but saw a piece about them on 60 Minutes yesterday evening. Your shots put it all in perspective. Great stuff.
Thank you so much for taking beautiful photos of the gates! I was hoping you or some of the other bloggers would share the wealth. Thanks for sharing your work with us. (Athens, OH)
The last shot is just fab!
Simply Great! A magnificent show of creativity and passion!
I agree with allergic, I think your last shot there is superb. Probably one of the nicest shots of The Gates I've seen so far. I wish I could see it in person but this is the closest I can get. Thanks Rion, keep up the good work.
As always your photos are absolutely lovely. This coming from a Denver gal who wanted nothing more than to get there to see the Gates herself. You made me feel like I was there. Thanks!
