ADDITIONAL NOTES:

blackout 2003: when my computer poofed off in midtown around 4pm yesterday, and leaning out the window revealed that people were beginning to pour out of the subway entrances, i knew immediately that my camera was on my desk at home in brooklyn. we left the office at 5pm and i trekked home on foot with fellow new yorkers for three hours & more than 5 miles of a cameraless walk.

today, we made the trek back into the city across the williamsburg bridge and witnessed halted trains, open fire plugs, and others on foot in search of life with electricity. community was found on stoops, and around ice cream trucks or bodega entrances. power came on in bits over the course of the day and now it looks like we're close to normal again.

luckily, there are no shortages of photos from the power outage. check out gothamist, 0x99, slower.net, satan's laundromat and the nytimes slideshow for more photos of a dark city.
