ADDITIONAL NOTES:

built between 1824 and 1829, the basilique notre dame is the second "notre dame" church to be built in montreal. the first, built in 1672, grew too small for its constituants and was replaced. the architect, James O'Donnell, hailed from new york, and interior decor was by architect Victor Bourgeau. the stained-glass windows were by artist Francis Chigot and depict moments in montreal's long history.

people from all over come to the basilica to worship, sight-see, view the spectacular sound and light show or enjoy classical music concerts all year round.
