]]>Jean Nouvel's Serpentine Gallery Pavilion on a spectacular summer day, above, from an afternoon coffee stop in Kensington Gardens. The last image is shot through red glass, creating some odd reflections.

From Dezeen blog: The design for the 2010 Pavilion is a contrast of lightweight materials and dramatic metal cantilevered structures. The entire design is rendered in a vivid red that, in a play of opposites, contrasts with the green of its park setting. In London the colour reflects the iconic British images of traditional telephone boxes, post boxes and London buses. You can see a slideshow at The Guardian, however the unexpected turn in this design is that it's been a particularly dry summer this year, leaving the city's signature parks with yellow grass instead of green.

]]>Above, Oxford Circus people-watching in black and white. These were taken on the same day that I visited the Sally Mann exhibition at The Photographers' Gallery, which was small but moving, and surprisingly free. (It's up until the 19th of September.)

As an aside, I'm also happy to report that posts from London should increase for the next month, having been slowed in the last three months from a slightly rough first trimester that sapped much of my time and creative energy. (I'm now feeling much better, thank you.) However, it may get a bit interesting after that, as things appear to be afoot (once again). Stay tuned... and more Oxford Circus to come.

]]>England is currently blanketed with red and white flags. They hang around shops, out of council estate windows, from wheelchairs, fly from cars whizzing by... And at around 3pm on Wednesday, throngs of office workers across the city streamed toward their nearest pub. Why? The World Cup: England's football team proceeded to beat Slovenia 0:1, prompting huge cheers from everyone in the streets. (Unless, perhaps, you were busy working on your laptop.)

]]>Thanks to IanVisits (via BoingBoing), we spent London's most beautiful spring day thus far in Kensington Gardens, having tea with riders decked out in their best for the 2010 London Tweed Run. Smart riding outfits (and some excellent moustaches) all around!
